Watch the Wheat Fountain!
A new wheat fountain, to be unveiled at the 2011 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. This iconic item was introduced in teh 1960s, and traveled around the world to milling seminars. It's powered by a one-half horsepower electric motor that runs flighting inside the fountainhead. It can hold about 500 pounds of wheat, that cycles continuously.
Incidentally, at a trade show in Tanzania in the early 1970s, locals kept grabbing handfuls of the high-quality Kansas wheat to take home, grind into flour and bake. Had the event lasted another day, all the wheat would have been gone!
